The Crescent City Farmers Market
One of my favorite things to do lately is to go to the Crescent city Farmers market in New Orleans. Since the beginning of this year, I have been juicing vegetables. Going to the Market makes me happy. It brings me great joy to be able to meet the farmers and be able to ask them if the produce is organic. They will gladly tell you whether it is or not. Sarah Howard (image) is the market manager for the Grow Dat youth Farm. www.growdatyouthfarm.org. I love walking around and buying a little bit from each vendor. On Saturday morning the market is on the corner of Magazine and Girod in a parking lot that has murals on the wall. It creates a beautiful backdrop for a unique shopping experience. The lively music plays from the center of the square....and who can walk away without a bunch of fresh flowers?
One of my favorite booths is Amanda’s Juice. I always enjoy trying the juice. For the first time ever, I drank Beet juice and I liked it!!!!
My family likes when I go too because I always come home with nice shrimp that is fresh off the boat. There is a man there who makes the best pesto I’ve EVER had. Oh and I can’t forget the lady that makes the most delicious hummus in the world. The baked goods booth has some delicious goodies. The best part is that every time I go, I learn something too. The Pesto Man will give you idea’s and different ways to prepare food with his the pesto. Everyone is so Friendly and guess what? Dogs are allowed!
Zoe has a great time too!!! The best thing is that when I get home from my little shopping excursion I feel such a sense of community from buying local and meeting the farmers. It makes me feel good knowing that I went the extra mile for my families food for the week.
The market happens around town 3 days a week. If you would like to attend, here is the link:
